Top Things to Consider Before Undergoing Cosmetic Dentistry Procedures

We usually perform cosmetic dentistry procedures on patients after carefully evaluating the patient’s dental condition and potential treatment options. Since not every cosmetic procedure will work for each patient, the evaluation process will involve careful examination of the patient’s oral health. We will also spend time explaining the process to the patient to avoid any confusion.

Not a one-size-fits-all treatment

The first step will be to examine the patient’s teeth and determine if they are healthy enough for the desired cosmetic treatment. The patient will generally need to complete a comprehensive dental checkup and potential cleaning before we begin any cosmetic procedure. Fortunately, we can customize the treatment to the patient’s needs after the initial examination.

It is important to note that certain cosmetic procedures provide an esthetically-pleasing treatment for the teeth, but may not provide the same functionality as a natural tooth. Some treatments can treat both functionality and appearance, but not all. Thus, we can help review each treatment and develop one to the patient’s needs.

Review all the details before making a decision

The next step is to review the procedure. While we will give our professional opinion on the most effective treatment, we will take the patient’s concerns into account. Our goal is to ensure the patient’s oral health while helping them receive the smile of their dreams.

We will go over the details of the procedure before making a decision. Since each cosmetic procedure is different, there will be a different time period for each. Thus, it is important to ask any and all questions during the initial appointment. Most cosmetic procedures will require multiple visits to our office on separate days.

Understand the days following the procedure

The patient will have to follow instructions for proper care after the procedure, which can include more than simply brushing and flossing. We will go over everything in detail and ensure that the patient has the necessary knowledge to remain healthy. There will be an adjustment period nonetheless.

For instance, the cosmetic treatment will not necessarily be a natural tooth but can still trap food between the surrounding teeth. Thus, the patient will still need to keep an eye on the cosmetic work and take care of the teeth.

Give us a call if anything changes

Even with a cosmetic treatment, there is always a chance of a dental accident or issue arising. We offer support and are available for the patient’s needs. It is crucial for the patient to seek professional treatment and give us a call when something goes wrong.

Do not have a regular dentist, who does not specialize in cosmetic dentistry, attempt to repair the damage. Especially do not try to repair any damage on your own. Attempting to do so can result in causing more damage to your teeth that may become permanent.

To schedule an appointment or for answers to any questions, give us a call and begin the path to your ideal smile today.
